According to a statement from the U.S. Department of the Treasury, Payam Afzar Peyk Asa has been sanctioned for its involvement or role in censorship. Rasoul Jalili, the founder and chairman of Peyk Asa, has been pursuing the acquisition of equipment related to SMS monitoring since February 2009. Since late 2011, he has also been actively involved in the Iranian government's efforts to censor the internet.
